Terms of Service

Plain English summary: AnimalID is a pet identity and health records platform. We store your animals' records, help you share them via QR code, and help reunite lost pets with owners. You own your data. We don't sell it. Read the full terms below for the details.
1. The Service
AnimalID ("we," "us," or "the Company") operates animalid.app, a platform that allows pet and animal owners to create digital identity profiles, store veterinary records and health documents, generate shareable QR codes, and facilitate lost-and-found reunification.
By creating an account or using AnimalID, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, don't use the service.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or in-app notice. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.
2. Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, or have the permission of a parent or legal guardian if you are between 13 and 18. AnimalID is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at legal@animalid.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
One person may maintain one account. Creating duplicate accounts to circumvent limits or restrictions is prohibited.
3. Subscriptions and Billing
AnimalID offers the following subscription tiers:
- Companion (Free): 1 animal profile, core features included.
- Household ($7/month): Up to 5 profiles, full feature access.
- Homestead ($15/month): Up to 25 profiles, suitable for hobby farms and small ranches.
- Organization (custom pricing): Unlimited profiles for shelters, rescues, and veterinary practices.
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance. We process payments through Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize recurring charges at the selected billing interval.
Profile limits are based on the number of profiles you created as primary owner โ not profiles shared with you by others.
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. Upon cancellation, your account is downgraded to the Companion tier at the end of your billing period. Your data is retained and you retain access to all profiles within the Companion tier limit.
Refunds: We do not issue partial refunds for unused subscription time. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 30 days at legal@animalid.app.
Failed payments: If a payment fails, we will retry on a set schedule. During a 7-day grace period, your paid features remain active. After the grace period, your account is downgraded to Companion until payment is resolved.
4. Your Content
You retain full ownership of all content you upload to AnimalID, including animal photos, veterinary documents, medical records, and profile information ("Your Content").
By uploading content, you grant AnimalID a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of operating the service โ including generating QR code profile pages, AI document processing, and PDF exports.
We will not use Your Content for marketing, advertising, or any purpose beyond operating the service without your explicit opt-in consent.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to upload content. Do not upload content you don't own or have permission to share.
5. AI-Extracted Data โ Important Disclaimer
AnimalID uses artificial intelligence to extract structured data from uploaded veterinary documents, including vaccination dates, medication details, diagnoses, and expiration dates. This extracted data is provided for convenience only and may contain errors.
Veterinary documents are often handwritten, faxed, scanned at poor quality, or use non-standard abbreviations. AI extraction is imperfect. Extracted data is presented as a draft for your review โ it is never finalized without your explicit confirmation.
You are solely responsible for reviewing, correcting, and verifying all AI-extracted information before relying on it. AnimalID is not a veterinary information provider. We do not provide medical advice for animals. Do not make health, travel, boarding, or medical decisions based on AI-extracted records without independent verification from your veterinarian.
AnimalID expressly disclaims liability for any harm resulting from reliance on inaccurate AI-extracted data.
6. Multi-User Profile Access
You may invite other AnimalID users to access your animal's profile with varying permission levels (view, edit, or admin). The account that created the profile is the primary owner.
Primary owner controls: Only the primary owner can transfer ownership, delete the profile, or revoke access from other users. In the event of a dispute between users with shared access to a profile, AnimalID does not mediate and will defer to the primary owner's decisions.
Profile counts for subscription limits are assessed against the primary owner's account. Co-owners or collaborators can access shared profiles without those profiles counting against their own subscription limits.
Ownership transfers are permanent once confirmed by both parties. Contact legal@animalid.app if you need assistance with an ownership transfer dispute.
7. Lost & Found Feature
AnimalID offers tools to mark animals as lost, generate printable lost pet posters, and match photos of found animals to registered profiles using AI-assisted image comparison.
The found pet reporting flow allows members of the public to submit a found animal report without creating an account. These reports are matched against lost profiles in our database and a secure, anonymous messaging thread is opened between the owner and the finder.
Privacy in reunification: We never automatically disclose personal contact information (name, phone number, email, or address) to the opposing party in a reunification case. Communication happens through our in-app messaging system. You may choose to share your contact details within a message, but that is your decision.
Location disclosure: Finders' reported locations are shared with owners. Owners' home addresses are never shared with finders.
AnimalID is not responsible for the outcome of reunification attempts. We provide a communication channel; we cannot guarantee accuracy of matches, safety of meetups, or recovery of lost animals.
8. Messaging and Communications
AnimalID provides a limited in-app messaging system for reunification cases. You agree not to use this messaging system to harass, threaten, scam, or deceive other users or members of the public.
Submitting fraudulent found-pet reports for the purpose of obtaining owner contact information or location data is prohibited and may result in immediate account termination and referral to law enforcement.
We reserve the right to review messages reported as abusive and to close or remove messaging threads that violate these Terms.
We may be required to disclose message data in response to valid legal process (court orders, subpoenas, or law enforcement requests). We will notify you of such requests where legally permitted.
9. QR Codes
Each animal profile is assigned a permanent QR code that links to a public or private profile page at animalid.app. We are committed to maintaining these URLs for the life of the service.
If you print QR codes on physical tags, collars, or identification materials, those tags will continue to function as long as the AnimalID service is operating and the profile remains active.
If we ever change URL structures, we will maintain redirects from old URLs to new ones. If we ever discontinue the service, we will provide at least 90 days' notice and offer data export so that QR code data can be migrated.
10. Deceased Animal Profiles
You may mark an animal's profile as deceased. Doing so disables lost/found features and suppresses automated reminders for that profile. The profile and all records are retained unless you request deletion.
Deceased profiles may be maintained as memorials and can be exported at any time. We do not automatically delete profiles upon an animal's death.
11. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use AnimalID to:
- Upload content that is illegal, pornographic, threatening, or hateful
- Submit false lost or found reports
- Scrape, harvest, or mass-collect data from the platform
- Attempt to access other users' private data or profiles without authorization
- Use the service to facilitate animal abuse, theft, or illegal trade
- Circumvent subscription limits by creating multiple accounts
- Interfere with the security or integrity of the service
Violation of these restrictions may result in immediate account termination without refund.
12. Termination
You may close your account at any time by going to Settings and selecting "Delete Account." See our Privacy Policy for details on what happens to your data.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without prior notice depending on the severity of the violation. In cases of accidental or ambiguous violations, we will attempt to notify you before terminating.
13. Disclaimers
AnimalID is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
AnimalID is not a veterinary service. Nothing on the platform constitutes veterinary advice. Always consult a licensed veterinarian for medical decisions about your animal.
We are not responsible for the accuracy of user-submitted information, AI-extracted data, or third-party content.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, AnimalID's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
In no event shall AnimalID be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, data loss, or harm to animals arising from use of or inability to use the service.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Travis County, Texas for any dispute arising from these Terms.
If you are located in the European Union, you may also have rights under applicable EU consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by these Terms.
